Mitre Lake

Mitre Lake is a flora and fauna conservation reserve located in Western Victoria near Natimuk and Horsham.

Encompassing some 720 hectares of land, the conservation reserve is popular for hiking, camping, and birdwatching.

Sadly, the lake itself has dried up for a long time now due to drought. But during sunrise and sunset, golden light casts beautiful rays on the ground and creates a stunning image to remember; especially with the silhouette of Mt. Arapiles in the background.

As one of the top camping spots in the region, visitors can bring camper trailers and tents – though all areas don’t have any power.

Campfires are allowed but bring drinking water and collect all your trash before going. Bring along your dog with you if you wish; just make sure that they are on a leash at all times.

There are towns not too far from Mitre Lake, which is good to know if you need to get some last-minute supplies.
