Each Easter, thousands of fans and runners all over the country and even abroad make their way to Central Park, which has made a name for itself as a mecca for professional runners. Throughout the decades, it has placed Stawell on the map, which otherwise would only be known as a tiny gold mining town.
For much of history, the Stawell Gift was only open to males but the footraces today are now open to men and women of all abilities and ages. The distances available include 70m up to 3200m. These Easter events are highly anticipated throughout the year, as they add colour and tradition to Stawell.
The Stawell Gift Hall of Fame is a veritable educational and historical institution for anyone who would like to learn more about the incredible history of foot racing in this part of Australia.
The Stawell Gift Hall of Fame is located on Main Street in Stawell and is open from Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10am to 4pm.
