One of the largest celebrations held throughout the country year after year is Australia Day. Celebrated on January 26th, Australia Day is a public holiday honouring the arrival of the first British Fleet on Australian soil.
Visitors to Hamilton can join in on the festivities to commemorate the day with a local community event held each year in the Hamilton Botanic Gardens.

Australia Day celebrations at the Hamilton Botanic Gardens are a vibrant showcase of community spirit. It allows us to reflect on the rich and diverse journey of our nation’s history and the stories that shape our lives.
It is a day to acknowledge all Australians’ contributions and celebrate the unique perspectives that each of us brings to our community.
The wet weather venue will be the Hamilton Performing Arts Centre.
Events also take place in towns throughout the Southern Grampians Shire in Victoria.

Official Southern Grampians Shire Celebrations include flag raising, local musicians’ performances, a Citizenship ceremony, Australia Day Award presentations and free BBQ by Hamilton Lions Club.
Balmoral
10:30am at Seymour Park, corner of Glendinning and Stirling Streets
Flag raising, guest speaker Mr Neville Trotman and free community breakfast.
Branxholme
5:30pm at Heritage Park, off Henty Highway
Free BBQ and salads, BYO chairs, picnic rugs and drinks.
